TRANSMIXR’s Final General Assembly in Porto

TRANSMIXR General Assembly in Porto, Portugal

Article:

The final TRANSMIXR General Assembly came around faster than any of us expected. Hosted by João Jacob from VRAI (with lots of help from his fantastic PhD student Teresa Matos) in the wonderful city of Porto, Portugal 🇵🇹 the gathering marked both a celebration and a turning point.

We travelled from Ireland in hopeful anticipation of a little winter sunshine. Instead, in true Irish fashion, we brought the rain with us on arrival! 🌦️✈️ Thankfully, Porto wears grey skies quite well – the cobblestone streets, view of the river, and the delightful conversations indoor making it feel ever so warmer.

This wasn’t just another General Assembly, the event was a moment to reflect on how TRANSMIXR had evolved from discussions on white-boards to immersive performances, AI-driven characters, news media/broadcasting tools, and tangible research outputs. Around the table, there was a shared recognition of how far the collaboration had come.

Attention turned to planning the final exhibition at UnitedXR in Brussels. How do we present the journey? How do we capture not just the technology, but the artistic ambition and human connection behind it? The discussions presented a clear sense that the finale deserves to be bold.

Of course, the final gathering would be complete without a little fun. The TRANSMIXR Quiz took the last hour of the meeting. Organised by Rasa (NISV) and Christina (F6S), it brought out competitive instincts, questionable trivia confidence, and plenty of laughter as we reflected back on some personal knowledge and lighter moments that clearly showed the most aspect of the consortium: collaboration works best when people genuinely enjoy working together! 😊

The final evening brought us to Casa da Música Restaurante, where wonderful Portuguese cuisine and stunning architecture provided the perfect backdrop for closing conversations. Between shared plates and raised glasses, there was a clear sense of achievement and just a hint of nostalgia as the final chapter of the project had begun.

I headed home with a suitcase slightly heavier than when I arrived, generously stocked with Pastéis de Nata and Brigadeiro. A delicious reminder of Porto and of a project chapter that may be coming to a close, but is far from finished…
